Commenting on writing portfolio
April 2020
For this multi modal project, I have spent a lot of time developing and design this WIX page to feature my writing projects for ENG 131. I enjoyed making this website to feature my papers and create a very clean look for my medical audience. The rhetorical context of my multi modal discourse includes multiple purposes: to share my writing portfolio in my ENG 131 class and to share my work with the medical audience outside the classroom. Those interested in medicine and/or nursing would be more of a target audience because they will be able to come to my website and see a film review of the busiest ER in the world, then a feature narrative of someone who shadowed an ER. These pieces could help you decide where you would like to be in the scenario and help you decide if you want to be a nurse or a doctor or any other profession mentioned in my papers.
I enjoyed making this website to feature my papers and create a very clean look for my medical audience.
With my design, I have included a home page that is a simple overview of what my writing projects about and a little bit about myself. I have chosen to show who I am on this website, because most people in the medical field will have to introduce themselves when discussing new research or speech they are presenting and I feel like it is good practice to begin working on how I should introduce myself. With introducing myself, I included a button that directs you to my WIX website I created last semester about myself, what I study, what I am involved in and my resume. By doing this, I will give the audience a better understanding on my future and what I plan on doing with my life. The rest of my home page includes my abstracts of each project, then have a button to direct you to the introduction page of the writing project chosen. This allows the reader to get direct access, without scrolling to the top of the page again and helps with the flow of my website.

Once you reach the introduction page, you see my abstract again to connect with the home page, my title, when it was last revised, and then the agenda. One additional piece on the WP1 within the introduction page is the trailer and a button to hyperlink the IMDB page for Code Black. I feel like adding the trailer will grab the readers attention and give them an incite of what my paper will discuss. Finally, each introduction page has another button that hyperlinks the final revised version of my paper, followed by the work cited page and any other drafts I did on the paper.
Finally the last tab you can choose when hovering over the writing project button at the top is a tab with research, notes, and pictures. I did not put too much time into this section. I simply just copied and pasted the notes I had completed in class and decided to just leave it just in case I want to look back on it for this website.
In my paper, I added hyperlinks to outside sources for the reader to learn more about what I am discussing. For example, in WP2 I hyperlinked Riley Hospital for the reader to see more pictures of Riley, since I could not take any during my shadowing experience. In WP1 I would hyperlink to the director, so the audience could learn more about him and how he views the healthcare system. These are two examples; however, I would also hyperlink all the sources I used so the reader could learn about the topics I focused on.
For formatting and design choices I decided to have a video background to add some movement. The text is on a white page with it taking the majority of the page to allow the reader to have an easy read. I made all the text bold and changed font sizes and colors for my pull out quotes. By doing this the readers will read the most important text twice. I chose the pull out quotes that best represented what my paper is about. For example, in WP2 I pulled out the quote of when the child is pronounced dead because that sets the tone for the rest of the paper.

Images were the hardest for me to choose and layout on WIX because I found it difficult on placing pictures in the position I wanted without cropping the image. It was also difficult for me to add personal pictures of my job shadowing experience, because I was not allowed to have my phone out during the shadowing hours. So, I did the best I could with trying to incorporate images that will relate to my text. For WP1, I used images of the DVD cover, then all the award the film has won. For WP2, I used pictures from the internet of Riley's Hospital in Indianapolis, a Riley nurse with a child, a body bag image to show what I saw when the child left the ER, and a few other pictures I thought related to my paper.
